Chill piano/acoustic improv, great for sleeping/working/background music. All nine tracks of “Glimpses of Sunlight” are examples of what happens when Zac sits down in the studio and tells stories through impromptu, powerful musical performances.

His sophomore release, “Glimpses of Sunlight” follows in the footsteps of Zac James’ first album “Stars”. Continuing to explore his fascination with improvisation, Zac branches into acoustic guitar ballads, layering two acoustic guitar improvisations amongst the familiar piano sounds used in”Stars”.

New songs include the glistening “As the Snow Falls”, the swirling movement of “Autumn Leaves”, the despair of “Forgotten” (which draws upon an old classic), the Celtic flair of “The Second Age” and the peace found in the title track “Glimpses of Sunlight”. “‘Glimpses of Sunlight’ covers new emotions,” says Zac. “New stories, new songs…the goal was to paint pictures with wide, impressionistic strokes of sound, and put the listener in the middle of the pictures, allowing them to imagine what the stories of these improvisations would be if they were told on paper, rather by tones and rhythms.”

Zac’s first release “Stars” was noted by listeners to be great background, homework, working and sleeping music, and “Glimpses of Sunlight” follows in its footsteps. Although it is fully capable of standing alone, it stands apart as excellent music when you need to get work done, when you need to fall asleep or when you just want music playing in the background.

But most of all, “‘Glimpses of Sunlight’, as an album, is about the twilight period between the darkness we know all too well, and the hope we faintly see on the horizon.” Zac continues, saying, “I believe in Jesus Christ, a God of light, of hope, of justice, who will make all the evil, vile, perverted things of this world right. One day the Sun will come out fully, the Darkness will be chased away, Death will have no choice but to hide its face, and the all-too-brief glimpses of Sunlight that now cross the horizon will someday be more than the merest of glimpses.”
